LOUIS ARMSTRONG Family Services, named in honor of Louis "Satchmo" ARMSTRONG, is a 501c3 non profit organization that provides homeless children and their family’s transitional housing, permanent housing and case management services.
LOUIS ARMSTRONG Family Services is the only program in the state of Louisiana that is focused on keeping homeless families together with adolescent boys and the only program in the country of its' kind named in honor of LOUIS ARMSTRONG. LOUIS ARMSTRONG Family Services is directly affiliated with Milne Bays Home through the LOUIS ARMSTRONG Manhood Development Program, where Satchmo received his inspiration. We realized (1996) that homelessness can happen to anyone, EVEN YOU! We have as our goal the empowerment of families who have been homeless by keeping them together, to free themselves economically from public assistance and other dependencies through personal growth and economic development. We help our families reach their highest level of independence.
Homeless youth are in need of a support system that will assist them in making the transition to productive adults. Homeless male youth experience more severe problems and are at greater risk in terms of their ability to successfully make the transition to self-sufficiency and to become productive member of society. We believe a family should be able to provide social, emotional, and economic support to its members regardless of the family configuration. In providing shelter, care, support and encouragement to families in need, we are a visible sign and instrument of the provision for God's children.
